LADY GAGA releases 'APPLAUSE' early!

In a surprising move, Lady Gaga announced on social media that there was a 'pop emergency': new single 'Applause' is available now. With the original release date on 19th August, it was hackers that apparently spurred the rush release. However, Gaga's 3rd album 'Artpop' is still set to be released on 11.11. Whether this will change too remains to be seen.

Featuring a dance/pop vibe and a quick beat, 'Applause' will have you dancing and singing along to the hooks 'I live for the applause', 'I heart radio on demand' and lyrics such as

I overheard your theory
'nostalgia's for geeks!'
I guess sir,if you say so
some of us just like to read'.

Gaga sings over the beats in rich deep tones. There is no doubt that 'Applause' will be the next big club tune and party favourite. I love it already!

The Hunger Games: Fashion Revolution?

I've recently joined the rest of humanity and went to watch The Hunger Games this weekend- and I think the verdict is unanimous: it's amazing.
From the slightly gory ever so fast action or the open minded dystopian fashions, this film has something for everyone and has topped the box office in its first week of release.
For the fashion and make-up lovers, it had a mix of earthy colours in District 12 in contrast to the Capitol where whimiscal, gaudy exhibitionism reigns.
Luckily for us, China Glaze have created a collection of Hunger Games inspired colours! Each colour is representative of one district - Smoke and Ashes representing District 12.
My favourites have got to be 'Electrify', 'Smoke and Ashes' and 'Agro' for really dramatic effects while channelling Katniss, where as 'Luxe and Lush' is very Effie-esque.

How To: Water Marbling Nail Art

Here's a super fun nail technique to set your nails apart from the rest! Water marbling is creating a 'marble' effect using water and nail polish. Simples right?

You will need:
A bowl
Cocktail sticks
Water
2 Or more of your favourite nail polishes
Nail polish remover
Cotton buds
Tissues
Let's get started...
Prep:

1. Take the bowl and fill it up halfway with cold water. Then take your first nail polish and add one drop to the water. The nail polish will spread into a thin, very faint circular film on the top of the water. I found that the cheaper polishes tend to be too thin for this technique to work, so it might be best to use a more expensive one for the quality of the ingredients. Next, do the same thing in the centre of your first circle with your second polish. Continue to do this as many times as you like until your bowl looks a little something like this...

2. Use the cocktail stick to gently coerce the layer into a pretty pattern like so...

Take the plunge:

4. Your pattern will look so pretty by this point, so fragile in the bowl, that it will be near heartbreaking to dip your nail in - but that's the aim of the game
This part's the messy part! You'll need your cotton buds and polish remover on hand - excuse the pun - to remove the excess marbling around your fingers. If you find it easier, you could always wrap some cellotape around the part that's getting dipped so you can just peel it off afterwards.
Take your finger and dip it face down in the centre of the pattern. The polish will instantaneously bond onto the nail by wrapping itself around your finger. Remove your finger from  the water and see the results!

Tidy up time:

5. To clear the bowl, dip your cocktail stick into the water and twist it which will gather up the excess polish. Wipe this on the tissue and clean your fingers up!

6. Woo you've done it! Allow the nail polish to dry as you would normally and to preserve the pattern, paint over it with a clear topcoat.

Granted, this technique is time consuming and messy - not to mention using up a lot of nail polish - but if you've gone for a simple manicure, using this technique for a feature nail on each hand would give a really quirky, stylish result. Thanks for reading and please follow for more tips and how to's!

A little discovery...Jap Desserts...

When I was little, I LOVED dolly mixture!! I still do. I used to eat all the other sweets in the bag first before keeping the little cube shaped ones until last - because let's face it: they're the yummiest. Now, I've discovered that you can buy the little cube shaped ones on their own!!! They're called 'Jap Desserts', and are available on Amazon.com as well as many other sites. Join the revival people!

You can buy them here!

A little tip for...Nail Filing...

Do you normally file your nails back and forth, back and forth? The friction while doing this can cause nails to split and break, leaving them uneven and weaker than you started with! Try filing in one direction with a crystal nail file - it works wonders for keeping your nails looking great! :)
